Part of the US State Quarter series that began in 1999, the Alabama quarter is the first official US coin to feature braille, with a miniaturized version of it reading Helen Keller in honor of the famous Alabaman, who is also featured sitting in a rocking chair above a banner reading, "Spirit of Courage". To her left is long leaf pine and to the right, magnolias.
